To the future sophomore officers, prepare yourselves. You might not be doing very much in the beginning of the year, but little do you know, you will be working nonstop once homecoming is over. Homecoming is over mid October, and you go straight to hosting Kyoto students. I advise you to start setting up meetings for the winter formal with your advisor in the beginning of November. It may feel like too much time, but it isn't. Remember to advertise the dance as much as possible, but also don’t spend too much money. Look for cheaper, but yet fancier things you could use for the formal, but remember it is a formal dance, don’t make it look cheap. This year we did most of the decorations through Events 22, My Little Balloons and Amazon. And DJ by Sounds of Motions. Pick an easy/ basic theme that is easy to create ideas off of. We ended up raising more than tripple our goal that we set for ourselves! Once winter formal is over, you go straight into winterfest. A mistake we made this year was not ordering decorations on time. One thing I wish we did, was order winterfest items the same time we ordered winter formal items. That way they came in advance with less stress. Once you think you have time to breath, you realize “shoot we have a whole fundraiser to plan for March.” Start to set up meetings with your adviser around the end of January. This year we stuck with Give Every Child a Chance, but you can choose any fundraiser for Coin Wars. A tip from Mrs. Cutino was to always choose a fundraiser that the school can attach to and grab their attention. People will tend to donate more if they have some sort of connection to the story behind the fundraiser. Now for the rally. You don’t necessarily have to do a rally, but it does help to get the school excited. For the amount of work we put into the rally, it definitely didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to. Make sure to double check if the music works , if your games are explained well, and make sure to get the crowd quiet. And remember, high schoolers aren’t always polite, and don’t always listen. They are teenagers. After the rally was over we thought it went TERRIBLE. But turns out, a lot of people liked it. So a tip.. Don’t get yourself down before you hear the feedback first. I’ll leave you with some simple advice, even though you will be very stressed, that is how memories are made. A way of coping with our mistakes was making them into jokes. Have fun with your sophomore year, and laugh at some of your mistakes. You will have unforgettable memories with your sophomore officers. Oh and P.S… make sure to bring a wagon around when collecting coins, the jugs can get very heavy.
