ASB Report- August 2021 Senior Class President Emma Phelps
Position Assessment: My position started back in the summer when designing class merch, attending Core Camp, and putting together senior sunrise. The class officers designed a class crewneck, hoodie, and t-shirt and sold both crewneck and hoodie for $40, and t-shirt for $20. We sold all of the class merch at Pow-Wow/ registration, Club Rush, and the day after Club Rush. The senior class ended up selling 180 articles of senior clothing making a profit of around $1,400 once we finalized our order. Bryan and I have held meetings with our advisor, Morty, discussing our PO forms, and finalizing our order, and the officers have met up finalizing our procedure form within the past week. We should be submitting our order by the end of this week. Throughout the process of designing our class merch I have been keeping in touch with the Izadesign employee to make sure our designs are correct. Through social media the officers have also pushed out senior diploma information which was due August 14th and sober grad information such as Sips n Suds, Volleyball tournament, and senior fashion show. The senior sunrise was held at the catwalk, on the first day of school this year. I was in charge of contacting Ripon PD, and pushing out this event on social media. We had a large turnout, hosting many different groups. The senior officers provided donuts and juice for the morning. Moving forward the senior officers plan on distributing senior merch, pushing out information through our class Instagram and plan for homecoming.
Standing Committee: This year I am involved in LinkCrew. I got to attend LinkCrew training over the summer, LinkCrew orientation, and back to school night. My group was Naomi, Avery and I. Our group was very organized and welcoming to the incoming freshmen. At the training we worked on team developing, and developed important information that should be told to the new classmen. At the orientation I got to know new students on campus, including playing games with them, and texting them throughout the first week of school. On campus some students came up to me asking where classes were on the first day of school. At back to school night I was incharge of letting parents know where to go. I had a couple parents ask for directions throughout the night.
Special Committee: When planning the back to school dance I was put incharge of dance decorations and selling tickets. Once I was put incharge I created a group chat regarding what we would be ordering, how much money we should spend, where we would be decorating, and who was in charge of what. I worked with Abby Campose, Kylie Brown and Avery Redula discussing PO and how much we should spend. The week of the back to school dance the decorations had arrived, however the dance got postponed to September 18th. As of right now all we can do is wait while on this committee, but we will all be working together, and keeping in touch to make the dance full of spirit once it is able to happen. Mentorship Evaluation: Over the past few weeks I have gotten very close with my mentorship group. The first week of school I created a group chat which made it easier to keep in touch, send reminders, and to push out portfolio examples and advice. Our group chat has been very active while at home, but also very talkative in person, giving us a chance to get closer. I have gotten the opportunity to help Ava Brocchini, and Abby Hendley on starting their portfolio themes, giving them examples of the about me and initial letters, as well as sending them outfit examples and advice for ASB formal meetings. Both Ava and Abby are not afraid to ask for help, or to ask any questions. I love my group of girls, and I can’t wait to see how they develop into a leader throughout the year.
Concerns: Club Rush was the first event run on campus from the ASB class this year. Overall Club Rush was a huge success with lots of participation, however I was able to see where students could have helped out. During our period of time to set up each table, put each student's name on the glass window, hang posters, count spirit and get t-shirts and cash boxes ready, there were some students doing more tasks than others. Some students were inside on their phones or computers, with no intentions to help out or ask if we needed help. Instead of the class officers getting t-shirts ready, decorating tables, and hanging names on the windows, it would have been more beneficial to have assigned jobs for each student. For example, half of the freshman representatives, and commissioners in charge of names on the window, publicity in charge of spirit counts, and officers incharge of their sales.
Positive Comments: My positive comment goes towards the renaissance/ link crew commissioners. This year Gabbi Ilardi, Jenna, and Jenaveve have put their best foot forward in running Link Crew training, Freshmen Orientation, Back to School Night, and creating/ pushing out videos and emails regarding renaissance. Each event has run smoothly and organized, and many people are interested in signing up for renaissance this year. Their position in leadership tends to always get overlooked through all of the chaos in the beginning of the year, which needs more appreciation. Most of their work is done behind the scenes, but their teamwork and communication does not go unnoticed in this program.
Change: One of our main goals each year is to get to know each other in the classroom, to build connections like family. During times of covid it is hard to figure out a correct seating chart, however, switching up the seating would benefit the class as a whole to get to know eachother better. I have personally become closer with my mentorship girls, and officer team, creating relationships, and bonds, however I have not had the opportunity to get to know students on the other side of the class. Switching up the seating for example: officers on Monday, mentorship on Tuesday, and then sitting with new people on Thursday and Friday could be more beneficial, and will give everyone an opportunity to get out of their comfort zone to get an opportunity to meet everyone in the class.
My Impact: This year I have really focused on going out of my comfort zone, not only in leadership, but in my other classes to make students feel welcomed and appreciated. I have been more talkative and willing to make conversation with people I usually don’t talk to, always keeping a positive attitude and bright smile towards students I have not met on campus yet, and always greeting my classmates while entering my class each day. I want to be known as a classmate that treats everyone like they are my friends, someone people feel comfortable talking to and willing to ask questions, and someone that goes out of their way to brighten someone else’s day. A quote that I saw on tik tok that I appreciate says, “Please don’t ever get tired of being a good person with a good heart. I know, it sucks being taken advantage of and feeling like it's better to be cold hearted, but people like you matter and are so important for this world.” I appreciate this quote because at a school full of so many rude people that don't go out of their way to appreciate other students, I am a student willing to put in that extra effort to be anyone's friend on campus.
ASB Report- September/October 2021 Senior Class President Emma Phelps
Position Assessment: During the month of September and the beginning of October, the senior officers main focus was Homecoming. We began planning for this event during August, but did not create a schedule, hold class sign-ups, and order decorations until September, which made everything very stressful and rushed. We began practice for the lip sync, holding practice every day until the day of, once we got the approval. The seniors ended up taking first place in this competition, which was super exciting. We then worked on the poster, float, and window every day after that, enlisting the help of our classmates outside of the program. The seniors also won first place in the window and poster competition, and second on the float, winning homecoming 2021 overal! Homecoming was a huge success for our class specifically and for the entire school as a whole. During this time, our class also held our Cool Hand Luke’s Fundraiser, and I helped out by selling all of my tickets to friends and family, as well as giving some of my tickets to other class members to sell. I have also been working with my class officer team to distribute senior class merch. It arrived a couple weeks ago, and we immediately took inventory and held our first round of distribution for the pre-orders on September 30. After this, we held another day the week after that, and are now planning to distribute the remaining 7 orders to said individuals soon. After this, we plan to sell the remaining merch to anyone who forgot to pre-order. Outside of my position, I also helped ASB run the Back to School Dance by being in charge of the decorations, and showing outfit ideas in the homecoming fashion show video posted on the ASB Instagram account. The dance itself ended up becoming a huge success, and many students loved the fashion show video displaying fun outfits to wear during homecoming. Looking ahead, I am planning on assisting with Dude be Nice, which will occur in November. After this, I will be in charge of the Gallery of the Arts, and the senior officers and I will begin planning Winterfest once we reach that point in time.
When decorating for the dance I told everyone what to do and where to go. I was also a part of the fashion show video for Homecoming. I helped Ava, Jaydin and Derek with displaying outfits for Hollywood Blvd, and Adventureland. That video was then posted on the ASB instagram for students to get outfit inspiration.
Mentorship Evaluation: My mentor group has begun to get very close with each other as the year goes on. All three of; Ava, Abby and I being in FFA has made it very easy to relate and to see eachother often. During the month of September I was able to take Ava to an away Volleyball game at Escalon. We were both able to watch Abby play volleyball and to talk with her after the game. Throughout the school year we have all kepted in touch through group chat and in class. With all three of us being in FFA we were able to bond over the Opening and Closing competition, supporting Abby, and going to the monthly FFA meetings together.
Concerns: Although homecoming was a huge success this year, and I was very impressed by the competition and involvement, everything was very rushed, and not publicized soon enough. Each class had issues with items showing up on time for the week of homecoming, and not much notice to the student body about the night rally, information about the nominating court rally, and the dressup days needed to be easier to understand and not as broad. I think these key issues were what caused so much tension between the classes while planning homecoming on such short notice.
Positive Comments: My positive comment goes towards the technology commissioners, Derek and Gideon, and our historian Gabby Degato. During this whole first quarter of the year, especially homecoming, they have been at each event capturing moments for the end of the year video and class scrapbook. Derek has done a great job training Gideon, putting 100% effort into making it to events, and making sure he gets good quality clips of each event. Gabby has done a great job communicating with everyone about sharing pictures and starting the scrapbook ahead of time.
Change: This year I had gotten a lot of feedback from teachers and students so we could improve on future homecoming events. A piece of advice that I really liked was inviting clubs to the night rally, giving them an opportunity to have their own dance at the rally. Not only would this make the rally longer, it would also involve all different groups from the high school, making more people want to come to the night rally. These dances would not affect the class based competitions, but it would add more involvement, advertise more clubs, and make the rallies longer.
My Impact: My impact to others is always staying true and loyal to the ones I love and trust the most. Most of my friends have been my best friends since elementary school, or the early years of high school. This is because I stay true to myself, keep the ones that mean the most closest to me, and most of all, care about the genuine friends, instead of caring about how many friends I have to “look cool”. I believe that it is more important to keep friends that are true, genuine friends that would do anything to support you, rather than having a bunch of friends that actually don’t care what you do. If I can call you one of my closest friends it means I genuinely care, and support you for who you are.
ASB Report-November-/December 2021 Senior Class President Emma Phelps
Position Assessment: During the month of November and the beginning of December, the senior officers main focus was senior merchandise, winterfest, holiday tree decorating, and planning graduation. In the beginning of November the seniors and I handed out all of the class merchandise that had been preordered. We passed it out during 4th period, and had pick up days during lunch. After all of the preorders were finished we took inventory and pushed out a final google form to students that still wanted merchandise. We are still working on collecting money and passing out the leftover clothing. The seniors are in charge of putting on winterfest this year. As of right now we have chosen an overall theme, ordered the sashes and basketballs for each class and the most spirited winners. The seniors have started ordering decorations and planning our decorations for each event during winterfest. The holiday tree decorations were finalized this week. Our theme this year was memories throughout our four years in high school. As of yesterday our tree placed 1st out of all of the Christmas trees. As the second semester is coming up we have held a class meeting with Morty creating a class motto and pushing out information regarding cap and gown. For upcoming events for my position I will be working on winterfest, graduation, farewells, and maintaining good interaction with the class Instagram.
For the month of December Link Crew is also asked to help with study buddy night. This night is used to study for your finals. As far as we know it is still happening this year, and I am planning to be there.
Special Committee: For the months of November and December I helped with cutting out snowflakes for students on campus to pass out during warm and fuzzy week. The sophomores asked for volunteers to cut out, and write a positive message on the snow flakes. I also helped with the blanket drive held by the class vice presidents. One day during lunch Dylan Saltman and I sat outside collecting change from peers around campus. That money was then counted and used to go towards blankets for people in the homeless shelter. Finally, to kick off the warm and fuzzy week I was the leader of holiday door decorating. I had Ava B, Ava K, David, Katy, and Abby C in my group. We were in charge of wrapping administration doors, and the PE locker room doors. I was leader which meant I was in charge of gathering the supplies and I also created a group chat to help with updates and easy communication. This committee involved wrapping the doors in wrapping paper, and designing a bow specifically for each said person.
Mentorship Evaluation: I still have Ava Brocchini and Abby Hendley as my mentorship buddies. We still use our group chat for advice, examples, updates, easy communication, and to build our relationships. During the months of November and December I have remained in the same relationship with the two. They are still asking for help, and still double checking with me about times, events, and portfolio checks. After the holiday door decorating in December I took Abby with me to Denny’s to join a large group to eat lunch. I then dropped her off at home and expanded on our bond. Ava and I have always been close family friends, during these two months we have communicated weekly, and helped each other with relationship advice, FFA, and leadership events.
Concerns: The holiday door decorating caused many concerns and much chaos . The holiday door decorating bad attitude, miscommunication, lack of effort and problems assigning doors were all problems. These may all tie into having this event held the day after formal and bad planning with assigning doors in general. The lack of effort became a problem when doors were falling apart before other groups weren’t even finished, which led to attitudes and tears. Doors that were never wrapped were also a problem. Halfway through we had realized wings were not assigned to specific groups, which led to people putting in extra effort to cover for other people's mistakes.
Positive Comments: The success of winter formal was a shock to everyone. The pressure of having a dance during covid, while hosting a winter dance outside, and having a low budget was very hard to accomplish, and created a lot of stress and doubt. However, the amount of people that went to the dance, as well as the atmosphere, resources, and decorations was astonishing. I personally had a great time at the dance, I was warm, the DJ was good, I felt comfortable, the decorations were cute, and it seemed like everyone was having a good time. Finding heaters and a tent last minute worked out, and I applaud the sophomores for figuring it out. They had also raised and profited a lot of money.
Change: For the month of December I would like to change the holiday door decorating for advisory. This is not a leadership held event, but it is pushed out by leadership. Advisory doors is an event everyone thinks is a good idea until they realize the class itself has to buy their own products and decorations. This event requires a lot of asking and not enough giving. The time gap between the two weeks of planning also gets forgotten in the mix of school, causing a lot of classes to not participate when the time comes. If we were to keep this event we could change it by providing each class some supplies as well as advertise it better throughout the month. My Impact: My impact is staying true to myself. Staying true to myself involves keeping my promises and following through with all of my events and things I said I would own up to. It is also a matter of personal integrity and self-respect. It involves standing up for your own values and not caving into the demands or expectations of others. I believe this is a strong impact because it is good to be known as someone to count on and a trustworthy person as I am approaching college.
ASB Report-January -/February 2022 Senior Class President Emma Phelps
Position Assessment: Starting in December and all of January the senior officers and I were in charge of creating and putting on winterfest. Other than class activities such as creating decorations and advertising, we were also in charge of the court reveal which included us buying sashes, flowers and talking to staff about announcing court during class and announcing king and queen during the basketball game. Overall winterfest was a huge success and had many positives that came out of it. The senior class even took 1st place overall. Right after winterfest the seniors jumped right into graduation, senior gift and graduation trip. We have met with Morty discussing class motto, purchasing class banners, cap and gowns and graduation invitations. We have also met with her to plan college reveal night and purchasing cookies and invitations for that event. Last week the senior officers and I also met with Mr. Rangle in spite of granting him three options for the senior gift, we just need to do research on all of them to see which ones we can go through with. That same day we met with Mrs. Vasche to discuss graduation trip. We plan on having a class rally/ meeting discussing rules, expectations and guidelines. The senior officers are also in charge of buying breakfast for the senior trip and finding substitutes for the teachers that will be going. In the upcoming future we will be passing out the last of the class merch, meeting with Rangle and Morty to talk about graduation and senior gifts, the class officers and legacies will be going to elementary schools to talk to 8th graders about the program and I will be presenting my elder project.
For the month of February I volunteered to help at 8th grade day welcoming incoming students.
Special Committee: The senior officers and I were in charge of Winterfest. Other than putting together all of the class decorations and promoting dress up days, we also worked behind the scenes to put the event together. We ordered all sashes, flowers and did all communications to teachers, asb students and staff regarding winterfest. For court reveal we helped announce and crown each candidate, as well as announce the king and queen during the basketball game. During the month of February I helped write three valentines cards for people in hospice care.
Mentorship Evaluation: I still have Ava Brocchini and Abby Hendley as my mentorship buddies. We still use our group chat for advice, examples, updates, easy communication, and to build our relationships. During the months of January and February I have remained in the same relationship with the two. They are still asking for help, and still double checking with me about times, events, and portfolio checks. Recently I had helped them with Valentines cards and have talked to Abby while in class as well as checking up on Ava while she was sick.
Concerns: During winterfest all of the events and decorations ran smoothly, however the effort was not as present as years in the past. Coming from an event that has not been on campus for almost two years I would expect excitement and effort shown throughout the classes, however it seemed like the bare minimum. Window decorations and posters could have had a lot more effort put into them. The decorations were also taken down too fast. Leaving them up longer during the day or having them up more than one day would brighten up the school and would display our hard work.
Positive Comments: I would like to give a positive comment to Bryan and myself for sticking up, and getting through everything to get to the finish line during winterfest. Working with classmates that had little to no communication, or would never show up to help because of excuses was very hard and frustrating. Bryan and I found a way to somehow get through the long two weeks and still produce a great winterfest with little to no mistakes as well as decent decorations with the help from other senior classmates. Our hard work and dedication paid off. We never quit even though every part of us wanted to break down.
Change: For next year's winterfest I would change the time period that we have our decorations up and the amount of work each class has to do. Instead of having the window decorations up from 1st-4th period I think it would be more beneficial to take them down after school or after the week is over to spread more spirit on campus, as well as to display all of the hard work the students put into it. Taking it down after 4th doesn’t allow a lot of time for other students to see them. I also think the workload was a lot this year which might have played into the lack of effort. I believe the most beneficial decorations were the pillars (if they have defined guidelines) the windows and the shopping carts. (Take out posters.)
ASB Report- March/ April Senior Class President Emma Phelps
Position Assessment: March and April have mainly focused on putting together the last final stages of senior year. It has been full of meetings as well as purchase forms. In March the senior officers confirmed our graduation name readers, Hyatt, Ochoa, Lavlasco, and McPherson. We have also looked into finding our speakers for baccalaureate. Our speakers are Chessa Johnson and Bryandon Boyce, with baccalaureate we also sat down and had a meeting with Sylvia Ochoa discussing what we have to do for this event. We helped put together the pamphlet, find speakers and promote. In the upcoming month we have to find a musical performance and have a meeting with the advisor of One Church. For graduation we have chosen the speakers, our graduation song, ordered tickets, passed out all caps and gowns, promoted graduation gifts, just needing to order pamphlets. We have also held meetings with Vasche discussing senior grad Disney trip. We have all numbers and POs ready to order muffins and waters, just needing to pay for 7 subs. College reveal night has also been in the works. We have passed out all invitations and balloons at the senior meeting, more people have signed up. We have ordered the banner, just needing cookies and information for each slide. For the senior gift, despite website difficulties we will be sitting down to put in our order, we just received the Po this week. Grateful graduates have also started up this past month, they will be going until May. Finally for seniors yearbook distribution has started to begin planning. I have kept in touch with Kona Ice, they plan on serving the seniors. We have also put in a Po for sharpies and wrist bands for this event. Further meetings with Felver, One Church and Morty will be held. I was also in charge of the Gallery of the Arts. This year it was a huge success. April was my trainy this year and we worked well together. A lot of different aspects were introduced this year with a huge crowd and great outcome.
For the month of February I volunteered to help at 8th grade day welcoming incoming students.
Special Committee: During the months of march and april I was in charge of the Gallery of the Arts committee, assigning people to do what I needed help with. I have also been a part of the teacher and dance committee for the challenge. I helped put together a meal for the teachers and create goody bags for the staff. In these upcoming weeks Bryan,Avery, Anthony and I will all be presenting at the CADA conference to middle schoolers. My topic is how to show gratitude and give the 8th graders a good, meaningful promotion.
Mentorship Evaluation: I still have Ava Brocchini and Abby Hendley as my mentorship buddies. We still use our group chat for advice, examples, updates, easy communication, and to build our relationships. During the months of March and April I have hung out with both of them. With Ava we have gone to birthday parties together, as well as going together to pick out new cows. We have fun talking about when both of our cows are calving as well as visiting me in Oklahoma. With Abby we often find each other in class or in the FFA department to talk to each other. We see each other at FFA meetings and text each other.
Concerns: I would consider this past semester our best semester. As a whole we are all busy working with not much tension. My biggest concern is self evaluations. As a student that judges myself or takes myself down, coming off as “being too harsh on myself” during my self evaluation meant that I could have received a better grade if I had not graded myself as hard. Knowing that some people gave themselves a 50/50, 100% and still received that score after the President and VP both could have disagreed, and stood up to what they thought that person deserved meant that the self evaluation, or reasoning did not matter or was taken seriously. For future purposes more students will be motivated to give themselves a higher score and to not got harsh if they know they can get away with it.
Positive Comments: My positive comment would be the classes desire and work ethic to help each other out when things need to get done. With the conference coming up I have noticed more students lifting a hand to help out. People are quick to help volunteer cutting out papers as well as working together to fill the bags. With great teamwork makes less work or clutter as the events come sneaking up.
Change: A change that I would want to see in the program is the desire to make an impact and the want to make events as successful as possible. As a class we are all motivated in helping Morty with the CADA conference as well as everyone going out to support Gallery of the Arts. If every event has as much success as Gallery of the Arts, small to big events the program will be more noticeable and recognizable through the board and student body. My Impact: As I am creating my last and final impacts in the leadership class I want to be known as someone who doesn’t give up or someone that never puts full effort into creating events or projects. As the seniors are going through the last weeks of planning graduation, baccalaureate, college reveal, gallery of the arts and more I have never been someone to give up and quit trying. I want the best for each event.
ASB Report- April/ May Senior Class President Emma Phelps
Position Assessment: April and May have mainly focused on putting together the last final stages of senior year. We have mainly pushed out information regarding baccalaureate, senior graduation practice, t-shirt sales, Disneyland, awards night, auditions and yearbook distribution. For baccalaureate, nobody wanted to do the musical performance, so we will have two guest speakers coming. Baccalaureate is this Sunday. Senior graduation practice will be this next Thursday and Friday. T-shirt sales are this week Wednesday through Friday, all leftovers will be donated. The Disneyland trip was last weekend. Was a success and the muffin breakfast and water donated by the senior class went well. For auditions only two people showed up, waiting on Felver’s opinion, but may not have a musical performance. Yearbook distribution is today. Senior officers have pushed out information and have donated snowcones to the senior class. The senior gift has come in, we will be putting them together whenever we get the chance. I have handed out all caps and gowns to all students, completed my farewells, presented at CADA and turned in my graduation speech.
For the month of February I volunteered to help at 8th grade day welcoming incoming students.
Special Committee: Bryan,Avery, Anthony and I had presented at the CADA conference to middle schoolers. My topic is how to show gratitude and give the 8th graders a good, meaningful promotion. I also helped with the challenge by choosing what should go in the teachers goodie bags and what should be served for teacher breakfast.
Mentorship Evaluation: I still have Ava Brocchini and Abby Hendley as my mentorship buddies. We still use our group chat for advice, examples, updates, easy communication, and to build our relationships. During the months of April and May I have hung out with both of them. With Ava I sat with her at the ASB banquet, attended FFA meetings together and talked about our projects for FFA. With Abby I attended elementary farm day with her, along with FFA meetings and talking in class. I both wrote farewells to them and will see them throughout the summer.
Concerns: I would consider this past semester our best semester. As a whole we are all busy working with not much tension. My biggest concern is communication and selfishness. During the challenge our biggest weakness was communication. Without communication some people were taking on more jobs than they signed up for and left lots of people lost and confused including staff members. When we were self evaluating the challenge I noticed many people ignoring our poor communication just to get a good grade on the challenge, however communication was our biggest weakness that looked bad on our part. Just because we have not done the challenge in three years does not mean we forgot how to communicate.
Positive Comments: My positive comment would be that some of the class members stepped up during the challenge when others couldn't. When students had AP exams, presented at CADA or some students just forgot others were always there to pick them up. I appreciated the freshmen doing the senior stars last minute.
Change: A change that I would want to see in the program is the way the challenge is run and presented. I think it would be fun to add different activities, which may be more lowkey and less stressful. We can also move it to a different week to avoid AP exams and other big end of the year events. I think getting more creative and thinking outside of the box would be a good idea instead of sticking to the same events for the challenge each year. Maybe otter pops at lunch, dance on a friday, teacher appreciation, motivation for AP exams on cars and one more small event would be less stressful, easier to plan, and more noticable and personal to the student body.
My Impact: As I am creating my last and final impact in the leadership class I want to be known as someone who doesn’t give up or someone that never puts half effort into creating events or projects. As the seniors are going through the last weeks of planning graduation, baccalaureate, college reveal, CADA and more I have never been someone to give up. I want the best for each event.
