ASB Report August 2019 Sophomore Class Vice President
Position Assessment As Sophomore Class Vice President I am so glad we started the year off with core camp. Our ASB created our 4 core principles to lead by this year. So far the year has ran smoothly. We have sold more class t-shirts than expected, and will reach our goal we set for ourselves at Pow Wow. So far we have gotten an extraordinary amount of complements on our class t-shirts. We sold them at Pow Wow, Club Rush, and again on the 6th of September. We also ordered new spirit items for our class box, hoping to bring our class spirit up early in the year. After the past 3 weeks of school the sophomore class came in 3rd place for spirit. We finally decided to create a sophomore Instagram account. So far we have 99 followers and hope to get more than half of the class to follow the account for more information about our events. Our overall goal for this year is to get our class spirit up and work on focusing on yourself. Last year we unfortunately didn't do well in spirit. This year we would like to make that change and make the sophomore class more involved than ever! Standing Committee Unfortunately I am not apart of a standing committee this year for leadership. Although, I plan to find a committee where I can show my best work in. Next year I will be glad to be an extra pair of hands in many standing committees. Special Committee The current committee running is volunteers helping Elias create a video regarding the school handbook. The video has not been made yet, but currently finding people to volunteer to be in the video. Another smaller committee was the dance posters. Me, along with a couple other ASB students created posters after school to hang up at the Back to school dance. The rally committee was well organized by Natalie and they helped put on one of the best black light rallies in awhile. Some people helped blow up balloons, set up the opening act of the rally, and helped decorate the gym. Concerns The BBQ line was too long, spreading around the school, not giving a lot of walking space. This caused people to go off campus for quicker access to food. We also had trouble with enough time and space for the Club Rush tables. Not a lot of leadership students got time to sign up for clubs. Positive Comment I would like to leave a positive comment for everyone involved in leadership this year. Everyone has been actively involved in all of the activities so far. So far everyone worked hard to put on the Pow Wow, Club Rush BBQ, Black light rally, and the back to school dance. You can tell everyone is starting to care for each other and really work together like a family. Special thanks to Natalie Betoshana. Natalie has worked so well with others and ordering everyone around to put on the Black light rally. We got lots of feedback saying it was the best rally we have had in awhile, thanks to Natalie. Change So far this year has gone well. We have not had many concerns, although we mentioned more class bonding. Working in the library this year doesn't give us a lot of access to creating connections with one another. To fix that, I had made class bonding exercises at Core Camp that I will introduce to the class on our free time. My Impact For the upcoming year I would like to leave an impact on everyone's lives. I hope to be a peer around Ripon that people can talk to for advice or suggestions. Along with making an impact on others, I would also pay attention to myself, and impact/ improve on myself as a person. Little changes can make a big impact
ASB Report September & October 2019 Sophomore Class Vice President
Position Assessment The stress of leadership has recently started. Homecoming was exciting and so competitive this year! The sophomore's took first place in the lip sync and first place in the float this year. Overall we took third place. This year we had an increase of class involvement. Currently our class Instagram has 162 followers, which helps send out more upcoming events or reminders, and gets our class more involved. Recently the sophomore class representatives have been meeting with our advisor each week. With Cutino we discuss Winter Formal, budget and decorations for A Night Under the Stars. Currently we have a theme, date, Instagram page and we are planning to talk to sophomore advisors on Monday. As sophomore Vice President I met up with the head advisor of Love Ripon, Vince Hobbs. Planning Love Ripon is coming soon, which means I need to start looking around campus for things we could change, or things that need more help to bring back to life. Vice presidents are in charge of the Love Ripon committee that comes up in April. Standing Committee In September I was apart of the coronation committee. I attended the meetings in Mrs. Ochoa’s in the morning. We addressed how to announce the candidates, and fixed the script to go along with the theme of road trip. I also helped set up the Homecoming rally the following week. We had to decorate the gym with posters, streamers, balloons and the red carpet. I was put in charge of grabbing the spotlights with Brenden, and during the rally I was in charge of handing out the sashes, crown, and flower to the candidates. I will be on the coronation committee in December during Winter Fest. Special Committee Throughout the months of September and October, many committees were ran. I was involved in homecoming, student handbook video, hosting Kyoto students, selling Tri Tip tickets, and helping with the gratitude video. The sophomore class representatives decides to all run a different committee for homecoming. Naomi was in charge of the lip sync, I was in charge of the float, Bryan was in charge of the rally decorations, and Avery was in charge of the front of the school decorations. I was involved in all committees, and also held a sophomore class meeting, introducing these committees on September 11th. After homecoming ended, I helped with the student handbook. Elies was in charge of the committee. I focused on the tardy policy, and played the teacher in the Student Handbook video. On October 10th the Kyoto students arrived! I was the host to Yume and Sazuka. Along with hosting, we attended the banquet, and I helped set up the cafeteria for lunch on Monday the 14th. With the Kyoto students, along came the Tri Tip tickets. My group and I went out to sell the tickets all together Friday the 11th of October. We ended up selling all of our tickets. On the 24th of October, I will be helping out with the Tri Tip drive through as a ticket collector. For DUDE BE NICE, the gratitude video will be played the first rally in November. I was apart of the beautiful movement for the video. I had the chance to say kind words to a friend, Regan, which is in the video. Along with the beautiful movement, I also helped Darius aline days for students to come in for the gratitude video. Concerns While selling the tri tip dinner tickets, we could have been more organized and could have worked with our groups more. Our class is needing to put in more effort to make events run smoothly. One of our core principals, is to create bonds with all of leadership. Our class had an opportunity to create relationships with their group, and sell tickets but most groups pushed it off. Positive Comment I would like to leave a positive comment for everyone involved in leadership this year. This year’s homecoming was so competitive. Without all of the class involvement and close scores, Homecoming wouldn’t have been as memorable. The theme as road trip was so creative. A thank you to the ASB for the phenomenal decorations on Friday October 4th. And a shout out to Natalie for organizing the coronation. The decorations this year were unique, and I think they brought more ideas for next year. Each class was committed, along with motivated throughout the week of Homecoming! Change After the first quarter, I think our class has done well. But we can all adjust to make some changes. I think the most important thing to focus on is effort and time. Instead of doing Brene Brown each week, the whole class period, we should switch it up. We need more time to work on committees, class assignments, portfolio, and catching up on personal time. I think we should do Brene Brown twice a month on Monday, a catching up on leadership work once a month onMonday. And a bonding period once a month on Monday’s. We all disgust that we need to work on bonding, but we have not yet had a committed class to create relationships outside of their group. My Impact For the upcoming year I would like to leave an impact on everyone's lives whether it be inside or outside school. I want to make the commitment of opening up to other peers to ask for help. I would like my impact to be, being easy access to everyone around leadership or Ripon High. I want to help out, or give suggestions. Giving new thoughts or ideas can help leadership events go smoothly, or new ideas become reality. Along with being open to give advice, or to help out, I would like to impact others to look up to me.
ASB Report November & December 2019 Sophomore Class Vice President
Position Assessment December was busy for the sophomores. We put on the Winter Formal on December 7th. Before hosting the Formal,we sold tickets at the window throughout the week. We ended up selling around 5 hundred tickets, and making over $4000 at the end. Our theme was Night Under the Stars. The following week the class worked on the CASL assignment. In my group was Molly, Royce, and Abby. Throughout the week of the 9th, we had the warm and fuzzy week, snow day, crazy sweater, stuffed animal, blankets, and PJ day! On the 11th the whole class was in charge of wrapping all the class doors with wrapping paper to show the Christmas spirit. I was in charge of my group with Makenzie, Carmen, Caryssa, and Gianna Welsh. And finally on the 11th leadership held a Christmas night rally in the mud. I helped set up the Christmas trees and attended the rally, and concert afterwards. Standing Committee I am in the senior night committee. I chose to help out the December sports, basketball, wrestling and soccer. For senior night you go out to support the last home games of the seniors, by gifting them with a basket or flowers. I am also one of the four vice presidents in charge of the Love Ripon project. We have met with Mr. Hobs two times discussing how to start thinking of ideas and how to plan a good event for Love Ripon in April. Special Committee In November I was a part of the beautiful movement for the gratitude video. I got to interview my friend Regan, to tell her a positive message. The video was then shown at the Dude Be Nice Rally. Along with spreading gratitude I helped Alyssa’s committee with the shadow box. I wrote a letter to my mom, telling her things I usually don’t get the opportunity to. We helped set up the shadow box with letters, and advice to the school. Concerns For the holiday door wrapping, my concern was the time of day and the time the wrapping paper lasted on the doors. Instead of doing it in the morning on a Wednesday, I think it would be better on a weekend. We would have more time to finish them instead of rushing. I was also concerned about how fast the paper fell down. Most of them fell down within 48 hours, which may play a role in the rushed aspect. Positive Comment The leadership class is getting better at sitting in different spots around the class. I have noticed that the underclassmen have become more comfortable with the upperclassmen because of different projects we have been working on. Like the CASL, slide presentation, senior poster, and wrapping doors. Our class is getting better at getting to know everyone and becoming more open to create a relationship with others. Change After the first semester, I think our class has done well. But we can all adjust to make some changes. I think the most important thing to focus on is effort and time. Instead of doing Brene Brown each week, the whole class period, we should switch it up. We need more time to work on committees, class assignments, portfolio, and catching up on personal time. I think we should do Brene Brown twice a month on Monday, a catching up on leadership work once a month on Monday. And a bonding period once a month on Monday’s. We all disgust that we need to work on bonding, but we have not yet had a committed class to create relationships outside of their group. My Impact Joining the soccer team in November has made me a more supportive person. I have found myself to lift up people’s feelings when needed, cheering people on, on and off the field, and also relating to people's busy schedules. I am there when they miss a penalty kick, getting hurt on the field, giving them information about the schedule or tips, or just someone to talk to when worrying about juggling both school and sports.
ASB Report January & February 2020 Sophomore Class Vice President
Position Assessment Sophomores took 2nd overall in winterfest! With the strong spirit in our class, we finally met our goal of beating the juniors. The Sophomore class officers have also been having weekly meetings with Cutino discussing Coin Wars. We have chosen a foundation we would like to support, counted the jars for the coins, but we have not yet discussed a rally date. I have also been working alongside with Mr. Hobbs, Gracie, and Aiko with the Love Ripon project. We gave our presentation discussing our three ideas. I am in charge of the project on the Ripon EL campus. We have to start a Love Ripon page with Mr. Hobbs and look at supplies for each project. Standing Committee I am in the senior night committee. I chose to help out the winter sports, basketball, wrestling and soccer. For senior night you go out to support the last home games of the seniors, by gifting them with flowers. I am also one of the three vice presidents in charge of the Love Ripon project. We have met with Mr. Hobbs several times, and have made a decision on our project. The beginning of February we gave our presentation on the three projects to the whole class. We now need to start planning and looking at supplies. Event is April 25th! The Sophomores have also started Coin Wars! We have yet to find a date for the rally, but we have the foundation we would like to support. Special Committee February is the time for the wall of hearts. I was assigned a partner, Kade Nelson, to create 50 hearts for 50 of the Ripon High students. We wrote positive notes on each of the hearts, to then tape them on the wall for each person on campus. These hearts were posted on the wall/ window February 12th. The FFA rally is coming up, February 13th. Naomi and I were asked to be in their fashion show to show off the class color yellow. Concerns Voting has become a setback for a lot of students. Either students don’t have the SuperFanapp, teachers don’t allow time to vote in class, or the link does not always work. A solution would be a greater time period for voting (homecoming, winterfest, elections) or going back to paper ballot ( elections). Positive Comment For the most part, the stressful, bussy, hectic parts of leadership are out of the way, and accomplished. They may be lots of fun, but we finally get to take a breath. Homecoming, check. Kyoto students, check. Tri-Tip drive through, check. Winter formal, check. WinterFest, check. Speeches, check. Election week, check! Each week, or event ran smoothly, and the whole leadership class put in lots of effort and time to make the events go as planned. Change I think the most important thing to focus on is effort and time. Instead of doing Brene Brown each week, the whole class period, we should switch it up. We need more time to work on committees, class assignments, portfolio, and catching up on personal time, mindful of self. I think we should do Brene Brown twice a month on Monday, a catching up on leadership work once a month on Monday. And a bonding period once a month on Monday’s. We all disgust that we need to work on bonding, but we have not yet had a committed class to create relationships outside of their own group. My Impact Over the past three weeks I have worked on my public speaking. I had the chance to give my formal speech about technology, present the Love Ripon project, and give my election speech. Speaking has created an impact in my confidence and speaking skills. These speaking skills will help me in the future, with future presentations or speeches.
